This a collaborative website about Roman Catholicism that anyone can edit!

Think of this as a fledgling Catholic Wikipedia, a wiki version of a Catholic Encyclopedia. We follow the time-tested principles of Wikipedia, with the exception of writing from a Catholic point of view (CaPOV).

Whoops, there are already several similar projects that are farther along than this wiki, listed here: Other Catholic Wikis. Let's discuss whether there is a need for an alternative project.

My sense from looking around a bit is that the Catholic wikis currently available are primarily interested in Catholic topics, narrowly defined. Since Wikipedia already has good coverage of them, the only reason to have a separate Catholic wiki is to have a Catholic point of view (CaPOV). But then why not cover all range of topics from a Catholic point of view? My plan is to first see if the already established wikis are open to broadening the topics and embracing the general Wikipedia approach (except on POV). If so, it makes the most sense to build on the base created by those wikis. If not, we should get to work here. --Hugetim 17:44, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

My current sense is that there are already two or three Catholic wikis out there that both embrace the approach of allowing anyone to edit and include all topics within their scope, not only topics about the Church specifically. So the best approach is probably to contribute to those. I'm currently exploring whether they are willing to merge or otherwise collaborate with each other somehow. --Hugetim 20:00, November 24, 2010 (UTC)
